Our First Thanksgiving

This thanksgiving was a little different for us this year and one we probably won't forget. We were still able to spend time with our families, we just had a few bumps before we started our day.Literally.

(Short and to the Point version of the story)
Thursday morning Cody got invited to go play in the Turkey Bowl at the high school with his brother and a bunch a friends. Now I thought this was just going to be a friendly game of flag football, but it was a friendly game until someone got hurt. That someone so happen to be Cody. I would explain exactly what happened, but I have heard about three stories so to be honest I don't know exactly what happened myself! All I know is that Cody got a concussion.

We were staying at my sisters house and I decided to get ready before Cody got home so we wouldn't be late going up to Grandma and Grandpa Clark's house. While I was in the shower Steph, my sister, knocks on the door and says, "You gotta get out Cody has a concussion." If any of you know my sister she is a jokester, so I thought that she was just kidding. I am always the first one to fall for it and I didn't want to fall for it this time. So I wasn't too speedy getting out of the shower.

As soon as I got out I heard Cody's brother, Jared, talking and then I realized this wasn't a joke! They left before I could even come out, so as soon as I got ready I was out the door on my way over to his parents house. I arrived wet hair and all (lets just say I didn't get ready that day). As soon as he got out of the car he gives me and hug and says he's sorry. In my head I'm thinking, "Why are you sorry!?" I think it was the only thing that he could think to say during his confused state that he was in. We all walked in the house and the first thing he wanted to do was eat. I was thinking that was a good sign, but I have heard people that have concussions can throw up. He ended up lucky and was able to keep down what he ate. As soon as Cody figured out what was going on his dad and brother gave him a Priesthood blessing. I am so thankful for the Priesthood! Not only did it help Cody, but it also gave me peace and comfort knowing that he would be ok. Soon after he was starting to feel a lot better and was able to get ready. After he got ready we carried on the rest of our day like normal. He was back to normal and that's all that mattered to me. Later that night he did feel a little sick, so I called my sister-in-law to see if her dad could give us some advice on what to do. He wasn't available at the time so luckily her brother is a docter too and saved the day. Thank you Dr. Thompson! He ended up having a normal concussion and his head will be hurting him for a little while. Poor guy. :( But I am so thankful that he was ok from all of it, and that he was still able to spend thanksgiving with the family instead of in the hospital.

I give this post a shoot....

Alright, so I guess it wasn't my day for cooking because I had a couple of "oh crap" moments. Luckily dinner turned out great, just not dessert.... Take a look for yourself.

Sorry you probably didn't want to see inside my garbage, but I had to show the finished product. Looks good right?! Yeah let's just say it didn't taste as good as it looks! Let me start from the beginning....

After dinner Cody and I decided that a little later on we wanted to make some pumpkin cookies (Cody's favorite). Well I thought it would be nice to get the cookies done while Cody was home teaching, so I go to get the pumpkin out of the fridge and it had all sorts of mold on it. Yeah, sick. Notice in the garbage you can see my pumpkin can. :)

After that I went to plan B. So I decided to look through a new cookbook I got from my bridal shower with a whole bunch of recipes in it. Well I came across a recipe called Peanut Butter Bars and I should have known right from the start that it was going to be a bad idea to make because one: it didn't say how much to heat the oven, and two: it didn't say for how long. So me being the young cook that I am, thought maybe 350 and 16-18 minutes would be good enough. I decided to check it every now and then and when I did it looked and smelt so good! After I took it out and let it cool for a while we decided to dig in. BAD IDEA. Another sign I should have known was right when I cut into it, lets just say, it was not normal. Cody took a bite and was trying to make me feel good, but he couldn't even finish. If he can't even finish it then it must've been bad! It never really cooked in fact it still had the texture of batter. After that I decided to forget cooking, so Cody and I just had some cereal for a treat. :) It was an eventful day for us.

Our first place!

Here is our cute little apartment in Rexburg! I mostly wanted to do this post because I wanted to be able to remember our "first home", and also let others see it since I have added a "few homie touches". Our apartment isn't big by any means, however, we like to call it our home. :)

Here is our lovely kitchen

Our little living room. I have been begging Cody for some curtains so our living room doesn't look so blah, but he doesn't seem to have the same need for them as I do. Who can blame him though he's a guy, he doesn't care.

Small small hallway

Our bathroom.

The spare bedroom, or in our case the office. With the bike...... man we gotta find storage for that over the winter.

And last, but not least, our bedroom. Cody finally let me put curtains up in the bedroom! Now I just have to convince him for some to go in the living room. :)

Yes, I just got done cleaning so I figured it was the perfect time to take some pictures of our first place. I thought maybe someday I would like to live in a bigger place, now I am not so sure. It takes me awhile to clean this tiny apartment, and I don't think I want to clean much bigger! But, all in all, I think having my own house will be worth it. :) We are so grateful to be living in Rexburg even though it is freezing 90% of the year. We have such a great university a couple miles up the road and we have great family memebers that live so close to us. It can't get much better than this!

Since we tied the knot

As most of you know Cody and I were married in the Idaho Falls temple on September 3, 2011. That was one of the best days of my life, and I wouldn't change it for anything. I often tell people that I could get married again, to Cody of course! It was such a fun day, and it went way too fast. We had been waiting so long for that day to come, and it came and went just like that. Now we are just loving life and enjoying every minute we can together. Married life is great! First steps out of the temple together as a married couple!

This is one of my favorite pictures.... :)

Man, where do I even begin with this post? We have had so much going on lately Cody and I hardly see eachother. Except for morning and nights. :( Yeah, not a big fan of that. I have heard people say "Just wait until you get married and you won't see eachother at all." I hate the "Just Wait" card from people, but this one they weren't a kiddin'. But, I guess thats what we get for being work-aholics, and college students.

A week after we were married Cody was back to the books, while I was heading into work. Cody is just doing generals for now and figuring out what he wants to do for sure. He was thinking about going into the nursing program, but now he has decided that he wants to be in the PA program instead. This last week he had the opportunity to go job shadow someone he knew that was a PA, and got lots of good information. So as for now that is the direction he is headed. I am so grateful that he works so hard, and wants to do something that will be best for us, and our future family.

I am currently working at Margenes Bridal. I actually had no idea that I would end up with a job such as this. It's a pretty good job, but I have had to step out of my comfort zone a couple of times. I am actually grateful for that because these are some of the skills that I will be dealing with in my everyday life. Once January rolls around I will be finishing up my generals, so that I can graduate with my associates in the spring. After that I plan on going into the dental assisting program in Idaho Falls in the fall. It's not set in stone yet, but it's something I am interested in, and hopefully it will all work out how it's suppose to.
Aside from our everyday life, Cody has been playing on intermural teams once a week. He just finished up playing in flag football, and his team ended up coming in 3rd! Way to go! Now he is onto the next sport which is basketball. They are all doing so well, and it's so fun to watch all of the Shelley boys play on a team together again. As for me, I am just Cody's little cheerleader. :)Next semester I will try to get on a volleyball team, but we will see if my schedule will allow that. Other than all of that we are happy, and life couldn't be any better!
